Ohio State throttles Michigan State: Buckeyes QB C.J. Stroud throws for 432 yards, 6 TD in 49-point rout

No. 4 Ohio State scored touchdowns on each of its seven first-half drives to run away from No. 7 Michigan State on Saturday, 56-7. The Buckeyes led 49-0 at halftime and quarterback C.J. Stroud matched the single-game school record for touchdown passes (six) in just two quarters.

Spartans running back Kenneth Walker III entered the day as the nation's leading rusher, but ran for a season-low 25 yards on six carries. The Buckeyes wrap up the regular season next week at No. 6 Michigan. Michigan State will host Penn State.

Stroud now the Heisman favorite

CJ Stroud is now the Heisman favorite on BetMGM after that monster game for Ohio State. He has taken the top spot from Alabama quarterback Bryce Young. Stroud is now -200, the first minus odds favorite of the year. Young's odds are unmoved at +175.

C.J. Stroud done for the day

C.J. Stroud's day is done with Ohio State leading 49-0 in the third quarter.

True freshman Kyle McCord just came in and threw an interception. Jack Miller doesn't appear to be here today, although he was reinstated to the team earlier this week. Quinn Ewers is the No. 3 quarterback. Curious if Ryan Day will actually let Ewers get some game action.

Michigan State picking up the pieces

This will be known as the day Michigan State's playoff hopes died. The Spartan defense allowed 49 points and 500 yards of offense in the first half. The offense only recorded 116 yards and was shut out through the first 30 minutes. Just nothing going right for Mel Tucker and company, and we still have another half to play. It could get uglier from here. Absolute clinic from Ohio State.

Ohio State spreading the wealth

Got distracted making a gif of Chris Olave's record-setting touchdown, a thing of beauty. It was a double play-action pass with a fake jet sweep to Garrett Wilson and then a fake handoff to TreVeyon Henderson, followed by a bomb from C.J. Stroud to Chris Olave.

Almost all of OSU's playmakers getting involved to give the Buckeyes a 28-0 lead.

Take your pick

I suspect there will be more Heisman hype for C.J. Stroud after today. But if you were ranking the five best players on Ohio State's offense this season, does Stroud make the list?

Not saying that to diss him, but Stroud is playing with a phenomenal supporting cast.
